About the Artist

Born and bred between the rural outskirts and the energy of urban Huddersfield, I draw inspiration from the serene landscapes and communities that define my upbringing.
Creating work in multiple disciplines enables me to more fully explore and express the tangle of ideas in my brain. People have referred to me as somewhat of a hoarder, and I live for the thrill of the hunt for a pre-loved object to fit my brief, searching for something I feel a connection to, hoping this will build a bridge to the viewer and connect them to me and my work. Interesting finds get squirrelled away until their time comes.
The joy then is in creating something original to help set the imagined scene in an alternate world; the idea of interactivity and an immersive experience is completely appealing, and so working with a range of media is a natural pathway, if a little overgrown with options at times!
As a mother and grandmother, my interests range from my family, art, music, veganism, environmentalism, animals and nature, to children’s stories, sci fi/fantasy, poetry, the sea, portals…the list goes on. Everything is connected, and I feel things all at once; the difficulty can be getting things out of my brain, and art is helping with that.
Finding art helped with long-term debilitating mental health issues.
It felt a frivolous thing in the grand scheme of things though, and the recent deep dive into vegan issues has brought some clarity and truth, aligning with my values and providing permission and meaning to my work. I feel like art has given me a voice—for those who would like to listen…
